Neftali Betancourt (27), student at the Windesheim course Dutch as a Second Language (NT2)
What clothes are typically Neftali?
“I like to wear corsets and long skirts. A corset gives your body definition and it looks stylish. I always combine this beautiful corset with a long skirt. And with that I wear other striking, but more covering pieces of clothing.”
Sometimes I make my own clothes, mostly skirts. I was walking through town once and suddenly received a compliment about a self-made skirt. I really enjoyed hearing that!”
What completes your outfit?
“My hair has to look good because that makes my whole outfit come together. On a bad hair day I wear my hair in a bun or ponytail, or I wear a nice hat or cap. I don’t leave the house without my sunglasses and lipstick. All the jewelry I wear are gifts. I don’t really focus on jewelry but more on accessories, such as a large belt.”
How would you describe your style?
“I like to play with different clothes. I like to combine sexy and business. I mainly get inspiration from Latin and American styles. You can find many great examples in magazines.”
I’m a big fan of Carrie Bradshaw in the TV series Sex and the City. I love all the outfits from that series, but Carrie really stands out.
What do you like most about the Netherlands?
“Nicaragua is warm all year round. But here you have four seasons and you have to keep warm with clothes. That is why you can vary much more in the Netherlands with different items of clothing. For example, in winter you can wear beautiful sweaters.”
